K9 Training Institute Review: Transforming Dog-Owner Relationships with Online Dog Training

Owning a dog isn’t always a walk in the park, the challenges of training can sometimes feel overwhelming.

That’s why when I stumbled upon the K9 Training Institute, I was intrigued. Could this be the solution dog owners have been searching for? I decided see what all the fuss was about.

The K9 Training Institute, or K9TI for short, isn’t your average dog training program. It’s an online platform that promises to help dog owners of all experience levels transform their relationship with their pets. They focus on understanding canine psychology and using that knowledge to create a strong  bond between you and your dog.

There’s one crucial piece of information you need to know – everyone should attend their free online recorded seminar before signing up for any other courses. This seminar serves as an introduction to their methods and philosophy, giving you a taste of what’s to come if you decide to invest in their more comprehensive programs.

The Free Online Seminar: Your First Step

I’ll admit, I was initially skeptical as free online seminars often turn out to be glorified sales pitches, but I was very surprised by the value packed into this hour-long presentation.

The seminar covers a range of topics, including:

  1. The science behind dog behavior
  2. Common training mistakes and how to avoid them
  3. An overview of K9TI’s training philosophy
  4. Real-life success stories from other dog owners

I loved the emphasis on understanding why dogs behave the way they do. They do not just teach commands, K9TI focuses on building a deeper connection with dogs. I’ve always believed that true obedience comes from mutual respect and understanding.

The seminar also gives you a glimpse into the teaching style of Dr. Alexa Diaz, one of the lead trainers at K9TI. Her passion for dogs is evident, and her explanations are clear and easy to follow.

By the end of the seminar, I found myself eager to learn more.

Core Programs: Total Transformation

After attending the free seminar, I decided to take the plunge and enroll in K9TI’s flagship program, Total Transformation, which runs over 10-weeks. This comprehensive course is designed for dogs of all ages and covers everything from basic obedience to advanced training techniques.

Each module focusses on a specific aspect of dog training.

Weeks 1 and 2 – How to get your dog’s undivided attention

Discover the 6-step process Service Dog trainers use to get dogs to become calm and obedient, as well as the WATCH and TOUCH commands to grab your dog’s attention without relying only on treats.

Week 3 – How to get your dog to sit still in any situation

Even if your dog already knows how to sit, learn the special way Service Dog trainers train dogs to SIT, which leads to far better and longer-lasting results.

Week 4 – How to stop your dog from pulling on the leash

Learn how to train your dog to walk calmly by your side, no matter how fast or slow you go. Also, you’ll learn the SAY HELLO command which allows your dog to calmly greet other dogs or people, only when you give permission.

Week 5 – How to read your dog like a book

A wagging tail doesn’t always mean your dog is happy! Learn how to read your dog’s body language so you can train them more effectively at times when they are most receptive to your lessons.

Week 6 – How to stop your dog from barking at the door, being aggressive, and destroying your home

Learn how to give your dog a job to do (like going to their bed) so they stop barking when the doorbell rings or someone visits. Also, find out how to prevent destructive chewing and ‘resource guarding’, which is when your dog gets aggressive when someone tries to take their toys or food away.

Week 7 – Train your dog to have good manners –  be calm at mealtimes, polite greetings for guests, and no more jumping

Learn how to stop your dog from jumping on you when you come home, during mealtimes, etc.

Also learn how to teach your dog to calmly greet your guests instead of jumping on them and avoid dominant – sometimes dangerous – behavior in larger adult dogs.

Week 8 – How to get your dog to come to you whenever you call them

We’ll teach you some cool games to get your dog to come running when you call their name, even if they’re busy chasing a squirrel.

Week 9 – How to take control of impulsive behavior

Train your dog to be calm and still in any situation using advanced obedience and impulse control techniques known only to Service Dog trainers.

Week 10 – How to get your dog to behave well in public

Learn to handle ‘leash reactivity’ and aggression towards other dogs using WATCH, TOUCH and other techniques. Discover how to have your dog automatically sit when you stop walking, as well as stop at curbs to wait for instructions before crossing a road – which can save your dog’s life.
